We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 [Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?" 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
