The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
