Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
