۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
