A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
