He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
