The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
