The unbelieving assembly of his nation, who belied the encounter of the Everlasting Life, and on whom We had bestowed ease in this life, said: 'This is but a human like yourselves; he eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, then you will be losers. 34 Promiseth he unto you that ye, when ye have died and have become dust and bones, ye are to be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 And the Cry seized them justly, and We made them as scum; so away with the people of the evildoers! 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they rejected them and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs. 50
