And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
