The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
