In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
