The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
