He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
