And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
