The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 on a great day 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 Indeed! On that Day a barrier will be set between them and their Lord, 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 A written record, 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!" 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
