Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
