The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
