Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
