And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 192 The Faithful Spirit has descended with it, 193 Upon thy heart, that thou mayst be (one) of the warners, 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs, 198 And he had recited it to them, and they had not believed. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners. 200 They will not believe therein until they behold the torment afflictive. 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 And they will say, "May we be reprieved?" 203 Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 and then Our torment will strike them, 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 And We did not destroy any town but it had (its) warners, 208 and reminded: for, never do We wrong [anyone]. 209 And this Qur'an was not brought down by the devils. 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Verily far from hearing are they removed. 212 So do not call any other god beside Allah lest you become of those who will be punished, 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 And if they disobey thee, say thou: verily I am quit of that which ye work. 216 Put your trust in the Almighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray) 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you, (O people!), on whom it is that the evil ones descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 They listen eagerly, but most of them are liars. 223 Poets are followed by the perverse. 224 Do you not see that they wander about in every valley 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
