Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
