The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
