He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he feareth 9 You neglect. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
