The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 On a Great Day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 and in their faces you shall know the radiance of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 On the Day of Judgment, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
