The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
