The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Save worshippers. 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
