Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
