The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
