۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
