۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned." 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 one of them will say, "I had a friend, 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
