The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
