NOW, VERILY, it is We who have created man, and We know what his innermost self whispers within him: for We are closer to him than his neck-vein. 16 [And so,] whenever the two demands [of his nature] come face to face, contending from the right and from the left, 17 Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). 18 The palsy of death will surely come. This is what you wished to avert. 19 And the Horn will be blown. That is the Day of [carrying out] the threat. 20 And every soul shall come, with it a driver and a witness. 21 You were heedless of this, but now We have removed your veil, so your sight today is sharp. 22 And his companion, [the angel], will say, "This [record] is what is with me, prepared." 23 (And it will be said): "Both of you throw (Order from Allah to the two angels) into Hell, every stubborn disbeliever (in the Oneness of Allah, in His Messengers, etc.). 24 "Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter, 25 who has set up with Allah another god. Indeed, you two, cast him into the terrible punishment' 26 ۞ And his comrade shall say, 'Our Lord, I made him not insolent, but he was in far error.' 27 "Do not argue in My presence. I had announced the promise of doom in advance. 28 The judgment passed by Me shall not be altered; but never do I do the least wrong unto My creatures!" 29
