The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
Almighty Allah's Truth.
