When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said, "You seem to be strangers". 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 and turned the land upside down, and rained down stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
