Nay, and by the moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 Of evil-doers: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 Till death overtook us. 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
