The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for the people of the right hand 38
