Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
