Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
