۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
