The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then came down close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
