And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 Nor a true friend; 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
