۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 What then, shall we not die 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
