The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
