He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
