The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
