A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
