Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
