The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
