And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
