The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
