The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 then came down close 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
